Functions

Functions are used to define methods for calculating deductions, benefits and accumulators. For example, you can set up a special deduction calculation for a pension where the deduction is the sum of specified earnings multiplied by a set percentage.

Functions - This list displays the functions that are defined for this payroll. When a function is selected, its information is displayed in the fields to the right of the list.

Functions can be added to this list by clicking on the New button. See the New Function Help topic for more information.

Function Information

This area allows you to add, change or delete information about the current function.

Name - This field displays the name of the currently selected fuinction. You can change this name by making the desired modification, then choosing the Save button.

Default Value - Enter the initial value that will be applied when this function is used. Note: A value is required in this field. Once the function is applied, you can change the value as desired.

Rate - Choose this radio button if the function's value should be based on a set rate.

Percentage - Choose this radio button if the function's value should be based on a set percentage.

Earning Units - Specify the unit types that will be used in this function.

  • Dollars - Choose this option to use dollars as the unit type.
  • Hours - Choose this option to use hours as the unit type.
  • Rate - Choose this option to use a set rate as the unit type.

Earnings - Specify the earning/parameter that will be used in the function's calculation. The options in this list will vary depending upon the currently selected Earning Unit. The following is a brief description of some of the fields that can appear:

  • Rate - The rate that is required for the calculation.
  • Earning - The earning that is required in the calculation.
  • Returned Value - The value resulting from calculation of the formula.

New - Opens the New Function dialog box that allows you to define the settings for the new function.

Save - Saves the current function. Note: If you do not Save your changes, they will be discarded when you leave this page.

Delete - Removes the current function.

Cancel - This button discards any changes you have made and restores the page to the last saved state.

Help - Opens this help page.
