Business Numbers

This screen is used to set up Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenue Québec Business Numbers. Each payroll will have at least one CRA Business Number and if the company has employees in the province of Quebec, a Revenue Québec number. Companies that have applied for a reduction to employer contributions for Employment Insurance (E.I.) due to a short or long term disability plan will have two or more CRA Business Numbers: one for Part Time or Casual employees at the rate of 1.4 times the employee deduction and others at the reduced rate(s) supplied by the CRA.

When employees are setup in eNETPayroll, they are assigned a CRA Business Number. As the employee becomes eligible for short and long term benefits, they are reassigned, by you, to a reduced rate Business Number. Employees in this situation will receive two T4's at the end of the year; one for each Business Number.

Totals are supplied at the end of the Payroll Register to facilitate payments to CRA/Revenue Québec based on the Business Number.

Business Numbers - This list displays business numbers that exist in the current payroll. When a business number is selected, its corresponding information is displayed in the fields to the right of the list.

Business Number Information

Name - This field displays the name of the currently selected Business Number. You can change this name by making the desired modification, then choosing the Save button.

New business numbers can be added to this list by selecting the New button. See the New Business Number help topic for more information.

Short Name - Enter a short name which will be used by eNETPayroll when there is a restriction on size to either display or print the full name.

CRA Business Number - Enter the Business Number supplied by the CRA. If you do not have a number, you must apply to the CRA for one. This number is required to make your remittance for Tax, CPP and E.I. The number is 15 characters long with the following format: 123456789RP0001. The first nine characters are your Business number; RP0001 represent payroll one; RP0002 represents payroll two, etc.

Revenue Québec Business Number - If your company has employees in the province of Quebec, enter the Revenue Québec Business Number here. If not, leave this field blank. The province of Quebec collects their own Provincial Tax, QPP and E.I. This number facilitates remittance of these funds. The format of the number is similiar to the CRA Business Number.

E.I. Rate - Enter the company's Employment Insurance (E.I.) rate. If you have not applied for a reduced rate, the rate would be 1.4 times the employee rate. A reduced rate will vary based on the short and long term benefit plans and would be similiar to 1.298.
